- I have grown up being taught to fight for what I believe in. I have attended Flour Bluff ISD since 1st grade. I believe that in order to find out who I am and express myself properly, I should be able to wear clothing that I represents me as an individual. I'm not trying to disrespect any of the members of the board in any way, I would just like to be myself. Of course I wouldn't want the dress code to be abolished completely, I just want to be able to express myself through what I wear. Especially entering our teenage years, we are trying to find out who we are. If we grow up having to wear certain clothing, how are we going to 'be ourselves' as we are taught in many of our classes? Don't get me wrong, the spirit shirts are great. I would just like the dress code to be a little bit more lenient. I read a quote once, "The process of leniency involves accepting the reality of the current situation and finding a satisfying meaning therein, as opposed to misconstruing or denying the facts of the situation." The reality of this situation is: we are not a private school, we should be able to express ourselves, and the world around us is changing, do you really want this school to be the only thing NOT changing?

I believe Natalie's idea is absolutely correct. We should be able to express ourselves in clothing weather it's a long purple dress or a gentlemanly suit or even just a band T shirt, we should wear what we are comfortable in.
Yes, actually i have gone to the Bluff my entire life. They sell spirit shirts at Walmart & H-e-b for like 5 bucks a pop. & Yes I know you don't know me and I don't know you either but i'm trying to tell you youre wasting your time, i am not trying to offend you. I'm trying to tell you that maybe once you get into High School you will see why dress code is needed for you younger kids. Also im not trying to "bash" you, this has been tried before and it doesn't work no matter how many people support it. I love this school will all my heart but face it, they aren't going to listen to a bunch of 7th graders. ://
I NEVER said that a dress code shouldn't be in place. Actually I said I didn't want that. It's a petition. If you don't like it or are against it, why did you click the link? It's quite 'revolting' you would hate on a petition that has nothing to do with you. You're in high school right? I don't know you and I'm not going to act like I do. I don't know what YOURE trying to accomplish by commenting on this.
Have you ever bought a spirit shirt? They aren't cheap. Yeah I do have 2 years of dress code left but why not try to change that? Spirit shirts can be more expensive than regular clothes. I'm not trying to make kids feel different or poor. It's just a petition. Chill out. Also, I don't even know you! What gave you the right to bash something I feel strongly about. You literally have 1 - 2 years left of wearing dress code and you decide to complain about it now? You do know in high school you can wear basically whatever right? The only reason the Bluff has dress code from 4th - 8th is so kids don't feel "different" or "poor" because they can't afford anything other than spirit shirts. In High School kids grow up and that is no longer an issue. There are more reasons to have dress code than to get rid of it for those years of school.
you do realize there is a dress code for a reason, right? like its not used to torture kids and honestly this "petition" is quite revolting and the fact that you think that in order to "be yourself" a dress code CANT be in place, is such a bad excuse to use. its really sad that the reason why you don't want a dress code to be set in place is because you "can't be yourself", why would a dress code effect the person you wanna be? its seriously CLOTHES for 8 hours of your day, and the last 4 years of flour bluff schooling you'll be able to basically where whatever you want with quite a lenient dress code im not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish with this? but whatever it is, it isn't gonna work

You might not have been trying to offend me but you have. Everyone has a voice no matter what their age. I don't know when you last bought a spirit shirt but they aren't just 5 dollars. I'm not even advertising it anymore. I don't know how you found it either. Maybe I was wasting my time but at least I tried to make a difference.
