I am Canadian, and always will be! My children are also Canadian. Just because I teach abroad should not limit my voice in Canada.

God knows about 40% of Canadians are so sick of our sell-out, greedy politicians they just stopped voting.

The right for all Canadian citizens to vote is guaranteed by the Charter or Rights and Freedom. Putting a 5 year restriction on Canadians to live or travel abroad erodes freedom and punishes those that need to or want to gain valuable experience to bring back to Canada. It is a step back not forward and does not benefit anyone. In fact the expat vote has been a saving grace in many countries when internal corruption, propaganda or influence lead to electing a corrupt government. Who does this benefit? It is discrimination. The UK is 15 years and there expats are also fighting it, 5 years is just ridiculous.

I am an expatriate Canadian citizen. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms allows me the right to vote:
"Every citizen of Canada has the right to vote in an election of members of the House of Commons or of a legislative assembly and to be qualified for membership therein."
I, therefore, have the right to vote.

The right for all canadian citizens to vote is guaranteed by the Charter. How a court can willfully ignore this right is beyond the pale.

As a Canadian who lives abroad & returns home at least twice a year, I still have a fierce interest in the policies of my government. I have every intention of returning to Canada and should not be disenfranchised.

Saying that expats do not have a say in their own country is an offensive joke! Many expats, myself being one, have plans to return to Canada which will never happen if we feel excluded from the democratic process of our own country

I may not live in Canada, but I am Canadian. I have a vested interest in what happens in Canada as I still have investments and bank accounts in Canada. My one and only passport is Canadian. Why should I have the same rights as a prisoner in my own country in regards to voting?

I may not be living there, but Canada is my home. Never has this been more salient than in the 3 years I have been an ex-pat, living in a country where I don't quite fit. Canada is home. It is familiar. I know it in a way I will never know another nation. I know it because I am part of it - though apparently a slightly lesser part of it now. When did citizenship become a matter of degrees?
I have made my voice heard in every municipal, provincial, and federal election since I was 18. I have experienced much since then. I have seen more of the world, which has shaped my ideas of good and poor political, economic, and social initiatives. I have 2 more degrees, including a Masters in Social Policy from a world-renowned university. I've got ideas that I want to share for your benefit, Canada - and thus, for mine.
You let my voice be heard a decade ago; let it be heard now.
(And yes, in case you were wondering, I still pay taxes. How about now?)

Living outside of Canada, shouldn't take away my right to vote. I'm allowed to vote in the country I currently live in and I should most definitely be able to vote in Canadian elections, I AM CANADIAN and proud to be

Appalling and wrong decision!! It is not always the Canadian citizen's choice to be abroad!! We are stripping rights from the wrong angle!!
