The purpose of this petition is to expand the bus schedule for the island of Kauai. The current schedule is not enough, especially on holidays and weekends.There is a growing demographic of residents who need access to this service. Elderly, unemployed, employed, students, disabled, homeless, rely on this crucial utility.

Lets say you are trying to catch the bus from the last stop in Waimea. The first bus heading to Lihue wont arrive til atleast 745am on Saturdays, Sundays or any Holiday schedule day. You wont be in Lihue til almost 840am. If you start work at 8am the bus wont help you. If you have to work til 5pm, the last bus leaving Lihue to the west is 430pm. This is not right.

What if you are a person trying to get a job and you have no car. The bus is the only affordable, reliable service. Most employers do not consider the bus as reliable transportation because of these issues. The cost of keeping a car on the road is becoming more expensive and difficult for many people. The early hour buses are becoming more packed.

All towns on the island need atleast 1 more bus in the mornings on these days ( A 6am run for example). Also atleast 1 or 2 more in the evenings leaving lihue ( 630pm & 830pm). There isnt a shortage of people who would ride the bus. More people would keep their cars at home if this service was expanded.

The only way this will happen is if the community takes action. Call the bus dispatch, and the Major's office when you have the time, write them letters. We have to be persistent. Change will not come without as many people as possible addressing this crucial issue.
