If it were decades after the end of the Nazi regime in Germany, and the last Jewish survivor of the Warsaw ghetto were still languishing in prison, being punished for the "crime" of fighting back and resisting genocide, ignored by the mainstream press and media and by the government and by much of society - it might not seem that there would be consequences. But if this prisoner were to spend the rest of his life in prison and to die there, it would reflect a kind of shame on the German nation from which it might never recover.

this is the largest visible stain on federal justice in this country as regards original peoples. he needs to be freed., now.

This is such a travesty of justice in these United States, the way all native Americans have been treated in their own lands.

The trial was a farce. I don´t know if Leonard Peltier killed the two FBI agents Coler and Williams in 1975 at Pine Ridge. I don´t know if he is guilty, but I hope and pray for a fair process of justice for him. Now it´s time for freedom for Mr. Leonard Peltier and to learn the truth! I was a teenager when I first heard about the imprisonment of Leonard Peltier. More than forty years later, I am disappointed to note that this man, who is definitely not a criminal, is still held in prison, far away from his parents, friends, home and land. France is the country of Human Rights. I do hope that it can be the same for USA. Please reconsider urgently Leonard Peltier's situation.

B"H The irony of the trial, conviction and sentencing is very clear. Mr. Peltier was on the Pine Ridge reservation to help those who live there to engage in constructive behavior, avoid addictive behaviors, and remain safe from the violent attacks by those nearby who are not part of the Sioux nation and who were coming on to the reservation to murder people, with no regard to the innocence of women and children. He was taking the part of a guardian of his people. This is good citizenship. The two FBI agents were not in a marked car, and they were in plainclothes, and it would not have been easy to discern who they were, but shots came from the car, so guardians of the innocents of the reservation responded. This includes Bob Robideaux o.b.m. and another guardian (members of AIM, an organization created to help Native Americans, from grassroots, be more constructive and law abiding, rather than be lost to liquor and unemployment) who heard the shots and responded and were acquitted. These men had an obligation to protect the innocents from any harm from invaders and it was not possible to discern who the plainclothes FBI agents were. Even the one who did the close-range shooting, whose identity has never really been ascertained, most likely did not recognize that these were government employees, on an FBI mission, and was acting on the motive of desiring to protect the women and children who were in easy gunshot range. What makes the story harder for some of us to bear is the realization that the FBI had been more closely looking at all the surrounding Native American properties in that region, as the Federal Government was seeking to acquire as much of this land and remove it from their treaty-protected possession due to the fact that it's rich in uranium, which is primarily used for nuclear weaponry, and even if used for nuclear power, can still be a source of death and destruction to large populations, and if the latter, in our own country. Leonard Peltier is being held as a political prisoner in violation of the US Constitution. His immediate release and clemency approval are necessary to restoring public trust in the US Federal govt. He would not be found guilt if his case was presented in court today. His sentence is overserved and in violation of international human rights standards.

The fact that Leonard Peltier is still imprisoned shows the ugly underbelly of the USA. What stands as a fair ,orderly, merciful, and effective criminal justice system hides a system that is filled with hate and need for power. This case could not show this more.

So many facts about the false and misleading/mishandled evidence and prejudicial trial handling in these many years of his incarceration.
