The MSc Environmental Engineering Wants Their Exam Results!
This is a petition for the organisers of the MSc Environmental Engineering from their students. We have been told that we will not receive our exam results until after the final examiners meeting in September. This is the first year this has happened and is not the 'norm' in the department, as many of the other MSc’s have already received their results or at least been told pass fail. Many of the students on the course need their results as they have pending offers from other institutions or need to start applying for jobs. Finding out all the results in September, having had no previous indication of how we may have performed puts many of us in a difficult position with regard to our plans for next year. Particularly, the many international students on the course who will not be able to obtain the necessary visas come September if things do not go to plan. We understand the concerns of the course director that if people fail the exams they will not complete their project. However, it is unfair to penalise the whole course for the minority that this will apply to. This is a postgraduate qualification and although it is not ideal if student drop out at this stage, it is clearly their decision to make. At this stage it is somewhat belittling that the organisers feel the need to ‘trick’ people into finishing their projects. Also, if the other MSc courses in the department managed to overcome this problem so should we.
