20/0/21 09:54 UPDATE: Petition has been sent to the Director of Learning and Teaching for EGIS and the VP of Education HWU Student Union. I will be in touch with any further updates.

With semester one now underway and new material being presented, many students have already begun preparing their notes and revision aids, in preparation for exams.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic the format of exams for the last two semesters have been in the take home format, and we have been advised previously that our 4th year exams would mimic this format.

On the 14th of September we were advised that this is not confirmed and that a decision on the format of April/May 2022 exams is to be confirmed in Week 6 of this semester and may be in the traditional sat format.

How a student prepares for a take home exam and a traditional exam are very different and knowing the format the exams will take is critical for our preparation.

This will not affect students with exams in December, however as fourth year students will be assessed on courses taken in both semester one and two, we are already organising ourselves and strongly feel that a decision made halfway through the semester is far too late and will be disruptive to exam preparations.

We do not see the situation changing significantly in 5 weeks time, and request that the fourth year exam format is confirmed ASAP, preferably to the take home format, as we have been previously advised it would be, and to mitigate against future complications due to the ongoing pandemic.

Thank you.
