National service can become a centerpiece for the United States in the 21st century, providing every American with common experience in building a stronger nation. We the undersigned call on the next President of the United States and the U.S. Congress to create a system of mandatory national service for all citizens.
The details of the program will have to be developed in consultation with all parties, but the proposed program would include a two-year service commitment for all Americans between the ages of 18-40, regardless of health or education status. This service draft will not provide entrants for the military, though active membership in the armed services will qualify as national service.
Let\'s make a contribution to the health of our nation a part of every American\'s life, and in the process make each generation the greatest generation.
The feedback I hear daily proves that people crave a shared sense of duty. I am currently reaching out to policy analysts to outline how this program could actually function.
