did you know that the US mint is ceasing production of the penny this year? After April of this year, pennies will no longer be minted, and you will have to pay a fee for handling pennies. Also, any pennies that stores receive will be sent to the us mint for melting. It is hoped by the US mint that 23 TRILLION pennies get melted for copper. This will result in the average cost of a copper penny skyrocketing from only one or two cents. People will begin hoarding copper pennies, similar to what happen 50 years ago, when people were hoarding pennies with certain mint marks, so the US mint removed the mint mark from the penny for 3 years. This time they remove the penny, forever. Not just 3, 5, 10, or 20 years. Forever. Plus, antique pennies that could be more than a hundred years old, could be melted, resulting in a loss of hundreds, thousands, or even millions, from that one coin, depending on its rarity. While this may save the US mint millions, it will cost companies and other businesses millions. Some may even go bankrupt. Just because a penny is worth one cent doesn't mean removing it won't cost millions. Support this petition to save the penny, along with millions of dollars from unsuspecting companies
