We the students at UNC Pembroke are seeking to establish a language lab on campus that will allow for the following outcomes:

  • To increase student retention within major/minor programs within the Foreign Language Department
  • Encourage experiential learning opportunities that seeks to expand upon critical thinking and analysis through conversational and communicative activities
  • Developing more opportunities for students to major or minor within the Foreign Language Department with significant support from faculty and encouraging intercultural dialogue early on
  • Ensuring that UNC Pembroke students are well prepared to achieve proficiency within a second language through interactive instruction, practicing conversational skills, and participating in intercultural events that allows for these skills to be put to practical use
  • Overall, the purpose of developing an Interactive Language Lab is to allow for the study and retention of second language acquisition not only become a reality for UNC Pembroke students but also allow more collaboration with the local community to ensure that K-12 students are prepared to become immersed and understand the different cultural nuances of studying a foreign language.
