Spanish Farmers Commercial on ESPN\'s MNF

During ESPN\'s coverage of the Monday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens on Monday December 3rd 2007, a Farmers insurance commercial aired in Spanish. The commercial featured Edward James Olmos sky diving. After landing he begins a monologue in Spanish. As he completes his statement the Farmers Insurance emblem appears in the lower left hand corner of the screen. As a non-Spanish speaking American I had no other means of deciphering what this commercial was about, and can still only assume that this commercial is an advertising scheme targeting Spanish speaking football fans. My complaint is this: I do not watch Spanish speaking television expecting to see advertisements or other broadcasting in English, and I feel that the same courtesy should be extended the English speaking community. If there were Spanish speaking viewers watching the game that did not speak English I can only assume that they had taken some other action to ensure they could understand the broadcast, be it subtitles or what have you. In that case, they more than likely had Spanish subtitles over the commercial. I have written this petition to voice the English speaking community\'s displeasure over this commercial to ESPN and Farmers Insurance both.
