Legalise public use of Electric Rideables in Ireland

All big capitals of Europe have rental e-scooter on the streets and their government support it. Unfortunately, Dublin as a capital city of Ireland refuses it with old laws.

Electric rideables can supplement the lack of public transport provided by the state and alleviate the need for campaigns like those seen in south Dublin looking to take peoples front gardens to build bus lanes. They are no less safe than a standard bicycle and the benefits can be seen in major cities across Europe. Ireland should be progressive in times like these and embrace the new technology available to cleanly and efficiently solve the problems of public transport in Dublin.

Garda needs to take care of other things. Maybe they try to catch foxes around if they have nothing to do.

Hope you get somewhere with this! I emailed Deputy Eamon Ryan (Green party) about this not even being on their transport objectives: https://www.greenparty.ie/policies/transport-urban-development/ In fairness they responded but nothing more than platitudes so far.

It saves me a lot of time and money. No sense to ban it.

They should be legal. No law says you can’t ride these. They are not MPV as outlined in Irish law

Needs to be done

Garda Síochána is doing a good job by letting electric scooters and electric unicycles that don’t fall under the MPV group (If assistance or a push/scoot to start is need It’s not an MPV) be ridden on the Irish roads. Only a handful of Garda Síochána seem to have harassed some users by stopping them and in some occasions seizing their PEV’s without a prior check to see if the vehicle itself was or not falling under the MPV current legislation. I signed it to help bringing a new legislation into our country that will allow the use of PEV’s. Say yes to a greener city!

Why are the Gardi singling out scooters? Why not ebikes? Or mobility scooters? Or electric wheelchairs? Its ridiculous & grossly unfair. Either change the law or show equal value to all these MPVs & see how popular you are when you turf someone's granny off her m-scooter
