As a retired disabled ( line of duty ) decorated law enforcement officer and veteran ( a medic ) I have seen bravery first hand . For this man to get back in a race is incredible. In fact it was declared “ the greatest comeback in the history of all sports “ . After my injuries forced me to retire I became a judge , criminal justice teacher, Town Supervisor and a county Legislator . I always used Ernie as role model .
In the course of teaching future law enforcement officers , I used Ernie’s story to teach dedication to duty and survival . I taught 100’s of students and everyone of them learned that lesson .
I believe that Ernie has earned the nomination to the hall of fame by his driving abilities and the inspiration of hope he has given so many .
