Once again, young hooligans get off scot-free for killing an innocent member of the public. Five boys, one of whom was just 10 at the time, were convicted at the Old Bailey of manslaughter and violent disorder in August. The youngest, now 12, and his brother, 13, as well as three other boys all aged 14, were given two-year sentences in youth detention centres. Now on appeal they are free. The reason's by Lord Justice Gage, Mr Justice Tugendhat and Judge Scott Gall. are of course inconsequential as the youths who threw stones at Mr Norton are guilty. We the undersigned demand that Prime Minister Gordon Brown intervene to see that the killers of Mr Ernest Norton are properly punished. The boys killed Mr Norton through their actions as surely as if they had stoned him to death. This behaviour is common place in the UK and it is little wonder when youths see they can get away with killing someone. We demand justice.

The weight of this situation feels heavier than ever despite the growing show of public support. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the system feels so broken but seeing so many people refuse to look away keeps me going.

Absolute disgrace. What kind of message does this send to kids? They killed a man and are back on the streets like it was nothing. Shocking.

This makes me sick. My heart goes out to his family. How can they be free???
