Petition for an Ernest Boxed Set!
We the undersigned hereby demand that studios and distributors (Touchstone Pictures / Disney, Mill Creek Entertainment, et al) deliver we the fans, a definitive Ernest P. Worrel boxed set. Not only do we want new, widescreen transfers of each film (including the cinematic oddity that is "Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam"), but we'd also like some extras, such as audio commentaries with Coke Sams and John Cherry, theatrical trailers, interviews with surviving cast members, and how about an honest-to-goodness Tribute to Jim Varney? Even better, toss in the entire series of "Hey Vern! It's Ernest!" and a compilation disc of all of Ernest's commercials and PSAs. Most of the films have made it to DVD in the U.S. (except for "Ernest Goes to School" and "Ernest Rides Again") and the current DVD releases, especially those by Disney, are infuriatingly lacking. There is indeed a market for this set (nostalgia sells), and we the fans not only want it, but want it done right, and are willing to pay for a high quality product. Companies like SHOUT! FACTORY have made a killing releasing classic movies and TV shows to DVD and Blu-ray (e.g. Mystery Science Theater 3000, Roger Corman Cult Classics Collection, Swamp Thing: The Series, Mr. Ed, Leave it to Beaver, etc.) and we believe that you too could turn a profit, if you'd just give the late Jim Varney's trademark character a chance. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely....
