I support the airport taxi drivers.
It's not fair to work 18 hours a day to pay airport and coventry connection 2.4 million dollars a year.

You cannot double the fee and expect people to swallow that. For the airport this is a cash grab. For the taxi drivers it is a huge hit in pay.

Dear SaturdayDAD,
Do you know I refer to you as SaturdayDAD? It is the only day I have to share with you. Ever since I was a little girl, I only saw you once a week.
Every day when we would wake-up for school, you would already have left for the Airport to start your 18-hour workday picking up customers. While we ate lunch at school, you’d come home for your lunch and a nap. At least mom would be home so you could see someone from your family before you’d take off around 3:00 p.m. for your second shift at the Airport. By the time we kids came home from school, you’d be gone again. That’s the way it was five-and-a-half days a week during the 80’s and 90’s.
Yes, SaturdayDAD, it has been 35 years of uninterrupted dedication to the Airport. You had to put in 18-hour days so we could thrive and become the professionals and trades people we are with families of our own.
SaturdayDAD, what’s happening? You are now over 70 years old, still going to the Airport every day, but there are no customers; there is no parking lot to rest your taxi; there is neither dignity nor work.
Why? What happened? Does the Airport not believe in your right to work and a livelihood? They believe in their livelihood. What does the past 35 years of work mean to them? Does Coventry not believe you deserve your dignity? Every worker deserves his dignity.
SaturdayDAD, I know this is breaking your heart, but don’t let it break you. There are hundreds of other families in our position and we will stand together until the Airport and Coventry sit-down and negotiate a fair contract with your union. They don’t realize that driving is your life.
From your daughter.

There is a moral injustice happening to 250 families in Ottawa who depend on their airport taxi driver parent for their livelihood. A contract made between the taxi union and the airport authority has forced the cab drivers out of work – if they don’t pay the airport $5 for each and every fare they receive. They already pay a lot of fees etc, so this $5 is an attempt at extorting money from the disadvantaged. The cab drivers were not consulted before or during the negotiations.
That contract was haphazardly negotiated without consideration for the livelihood of the cab drivers and their families. The contract itself is inhumane which is a reflection of the incompetency and inconsideration of the contract negotiators – they need to admit they made a mistake and then go back and re-negotiate and FIX this injustice. Shame on Coventry Connections (President – Mr. Hanif Patni) and the Ottawa International Airport Authority (President - Mark Laroche) for not budging to fix this HUGELY UNJUST mistake on their part.
Mr. Laroche, Mr. Patni - we the good hard-working citizens of Ottawa call on you to fix this mistake so the cab drivers can go back to work.

All I want to say this whole situation is bs !
I am not a cab driver just to be clear.
But I think this is conflict of interest by putting blue line cabs in the airport to replace the airport cab drivers ! Are you kidding me !?!
Blue cabs are a bunch of greedy hungry low life chickens !
You guys in the same union and should support each other !
No class no self respect no dignity !
Why is blue line not paying 5$ a fair ??
At least airport taxi has class with the dress code not driving in flip flops and wife beaters ! Not all blue line but a lot of them !
Talking from personal experience !
Airport cars are cleaner more presentable!
Blue line should not be allowed to pick up from airport !
I feel sorry for the airport cabs how they have been treated and kicked to streets because of greed !

I think it is not fair to target the airport taxi drivers and their families because one part can impose their own conditions while the taxi drivers has no option or room of negotiations.
Equality for the hard working airport taxi drivers!!!
