My daughter was injured by a male coach through an act of negligence that was completely avoidable. It was covered up to protect the coach, and my daughter was shamed and silenced for reporting the injury. The coach who injured her was promoted to head coach this year. Although we signed her up for hockey, the hockey association refused to agree to a safety plan. During a practice, she suffered further maltreatment by other male coaches in retaliation for the complaint. We tried to get her off the team for her physical and mental safety. The organization refused and vowed to prevent her from playing all season. Since September 25, 2023, my daughter has not been allowed to play.

I am a disabled hockey player and didn't have the opportunity to play as child. hockey is for everyone and should always be for everyone--no matter who you are.

As an avid female childhood hockey player (under 8 yrs old), us girls tend to not like having to hope there's a handicap stall in the women's restroom so we can change into and out of our gear. We don't even need a big room, just not a bathroom or a room with dudes in it.

The OWHA needs to amend their game time lengths to accommodate longer period lengths and no curfews in competitive hockey. This needs to be in line with that of boys hockey. Currently competitive boys hockey there are no curfews and longer period length. House League hockey still maintains the curfews. The OWHA says 10-10-12 for periods and travelling 1-2 hrs for a game to play 32 min of game play is not sufficient. Not to mention we pay refs for a 15min period length even if only a 12min period. The girls game has grown exponentially and needs changes at the top of the OWHA. New people and new ideas and not so focused on big cities.
