Discrimination based on sexual orientation is still the latest word among many. The “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was proposed as a progressive act. During Bill CLinton’s presidency, he signed it allowing gays to serve in the army, only if they were not open about their sexuality and their commanders were prevented from asking about it. In 2010, a federal judge felt it violated the First Amendment’s due process clause. This month, invalidation of the policy took effect, but equality amongst gays has been difficult. Defenders announced that the 14th Amendment’s guarantees equal protection for gays and lesbians to marry. Although the Obama Administration has said it will no longer fulfill the Defense of Marriage Act which was passed in 1966, and said marriage as legal union between a man and woman. Therefore, the issue was in hands of the states. Vermont, Iowa, and Massachusetts were some who passed the low of same-sex marriage, and

others were still in negation.

We have the ultimate power to create change. We are all created equally, not one being should be treated less than any other because of their sexuality.
