The changes that have been done to the parking are pretty nonsensical. I trust that SGA (or whoever is in charge) will read this petition, consider the valid points, and correct the issue... I believe in you Bryan College (and my wallet is counting on you).

The changes made to the parking are not logical and if there are any changes that are needed, the parking system should go to an equal-pay credit-hour assignment system that allows only upperclassmen to park behind the dorms and makes freshman park in lower parking lots. Them freshman are young and they got more spryness in their bones anyway, make them walk farther.

Many of the previous comments make really good points and/or suggestions on how to make the new system better and the flaws that are in the new system. So, with that being said I would love to see SGA look at this petition and try to come up with something that solves the big problems that are raised and take the suggestions into account and see what they can do about it.

The original plan was for parking to open as housing did, so the people with the most credit hours would get it first, but thanks to a technical glitch that didn't get fixed until housing was open to everyone, that didn't happen.

1. I think the tiered parking isn't a bad idea. This gives people currently at Bryan the chance to have better parking than trying to fight the 300 or something freshmen coming in next year.
2. Is the price a little much? Yes. We already have terrible parking, and we already pay a ridiculous amount. If the fees all around were lower or at least if our parking fees went towards making improvements to our parking (seriously, why isn't the gravel lot already paved from the $125 fees we all pay) I could understand it.
3. This petition is a nice idea. However, I think that students should seek out SGA to discuss these issues. That's why we have SGA so that we, the students, are represented to the administration.. then if you feel your voice isn't heard, petition away.
4. Also, poor lighting around campus was mentioned... This would be another great thing to bring up to SGA if the lighting really bothers you and you see it as a danger.

If you are going to offer 70 spots they need to go to the Seniors and Juniors first NOT sophmores or freshman!

I encourage everyone to talk to your senators about your concerns over this. A petition is a good way to get SGA's attention but be careful not to assume this is an evil scheme to make money. With all of the complaints we hear about parking all year, senate worked through several options to improve parking, but if this is not it we will revisit it.

Actually, it was a solution to combat all the complaints about parking that was discussed in senate and approved by a lot of students we talked to. Since there is so much backlash we will revisit it.

I don't even live on campus and I still feel like this is ridiculously unfair. Like Kim said, it will divide the student body. The idea of making people pay more money than they have been just to park in the worst spots on campus is ludicrous. I don't know who thought this up but it's an unfair, divisive, and tightfisted scheme to pull more money from students' pockets.

Not only is the new parking setup discriminatory towards students who may not be able to afford premium parking, but it is dangerous, particularly for the female students. Students in standard parking have to walk farther and in poorly-lit areas in order to reach their dorms.

This would be a great system IF the fee for the lower-level parking was substantially less. (Read my logic in paragraph below). SGA as I understand was pushing toward that. I think that would be cool, so if anyone else agrees, we should try asking for that lower price for standard-tier.
Here's the logic as to why it would be cool:
-Previously, $125 earned me the right to park on campus...(on a lucky day, that might be beside a dorm, but it would more often mean a walk from the bottom of Rudd...in the rain. It was up to chance).
-With the 2-tiered parking system (with an actually appropriate price for lower tier, maybe $50?), $175 guarantees me a spot beside my dorm, OR I can choose to save money and pay the lower fee ($50) and be guaranteed a little extra exercise (and probably keep an umbrella in my car). But at least I know where I'm guaranteed a spot to park and don't do like NASCAR around campus looking for a lucky chance?
So, if anyone was patient enough to read through this horribly-long-winded comment, let's take advantage of this new system by asking for a lowered price for standard tier resident parking. Or, if we're lucky (who knows, it's up to chance), maybe standard parking could be...dare I say...free?
