EQUAL HOUSING FOR ALL (Note at the End)

To Indiana’s University of Pennsylvania’s Housing, Residential Living, and Dining Department (iup-housing@iup.edu) President Driscoll, (driscoll@iup.edu) Vice President Segar (tsegar@iup.edu), the student body of IUP is imploring you to treat all IUP students equally when it comes to housing opportunities.
It has been brought to the student body's attention that there has been unfair treatment regarding a housing scholarship. This scholarship is the $1,000 Housing Scholarship for students who decide to live on campus.
However, if you are an upper-class Honors College student who decides to live in Whitmyre, the Honors College building and dorms, or an incoming Honors College freshman, you are not privy to this scholarship.
The reasons given have been insufficient. The main reason given is that the Honors College is already cheaper than other housing. However, this is not true.
The Honors College dorms do not have private bathrooms or a kitchenette, so the perceived “cheaper” price is congruent with the amenities given to the students.
This is also unfair to incoming Honors College freshmen who are required to live in the Honors College. To require students to live in the Honors College and also make them pay more money to live in those dorms is immoral and improper.
To punish students for being a part of the Honors College, which brings
prestige and financial gain to the university is not something that should happen.
As the student body, we implore you to give equal access to all and grant this scholarship to qualifying upper-classmen and incoming freshmen who are required or want to live in the Honors College.
