Around 600,000 people in UK have Epilepsy. Even with such a large number of the population Epilepsy is still widely misunderstood. People with Epilepsy are often treated with fear and misunderstanding and the resulting social discrimination can have a deep impact on people living with the condition. Problems are especially felt in the fields of education and employment, where stigma has been and still is significant. Many people living with the condition have been side-lined, mistreated and even bullied in the workplace because of other people’s fear and misunderstanding of Epilepsy. Surely it is time to change, clear the misunderstanding and highlight that people with Epilepsy shouldn't be treated with stigma and mistrust. Just take a look at the names of some famous people with Epilepsy: Vincent van Gogh Sir Isaac Newton Charles Dickens Leonardo Da Vinci Edgar Allen Poe Lewis Carrol Richard Burton Agatha Christie Michelangelotie Epilepsy isn't something that should be swept under the carpet but should be clearly explained and highlighted, just as other conditions like cancer, so that people can understand what Epilepsy is and help remove the social stigma that surrounds it. Don't let the stigma continue, help people with Epilepsy become more accepted and have greater protection in education and employment. Most of all "DON'T SWEEP IT UNDER THE CARPET"
