A Fifa edict says the wearing of poppies would break the rules about displaying political, religious or commercial symbols. The poppy is certainly not a religious or commercial symbol, and is not political. The poppy is worn all around the world (over 120 countries) as a symbol of remembrance. It has been suggested that it would cause offence to Germany, however, Germany is one of the countries where the poppy is worn and their national team support the right of football players to wear them during international competition.
