The overhaul of the required curriculum for undergraduates referred to as the General Education curriculum at the University of Maryland, College Park, has been largely unhelpful due to lack of student input. Though the requirements could be an improvement upon the previous CORE requirements, the professionally geared classes such as communication and professional writing leave much to be desire. This petition is to open a dialogue between students and the administration regarding the required courses that have been mandated by the General educations requirements. Specifically we believe that these classes should incorporate more practice to help prepare students for professional scenarios and leave out unnecessary theoretical material.
