Keep Engine 278 Open
The Mayor of New York City has decided that, we the voting people, do not require the services of eight (8) fire engines throughout New York City. One of these firehouses, Engine Company 278, at 5011-7th Avenue serves the people of Sunset Park and Borough Park. We are the 1st Engine to respond to most homes and businesses in Sunset Park and Borough Park. We are also often called to respond to Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights for major fires and emergencies and when the normally assigned engines are out of service, which happens quite frequently. (You probably didn\'t know that, right) We respond into Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights as a direct result of our close proximity to these neighborhoods. We can get there in a hurry! This petition will be forwarded to the Mayor, the City Council and the Fire Commissioner as soon as possible. The 45 days notice has been given and we are on the clock!!! We intend to use this petition for ALL the firehouses slated to be closed as well as ours. They include Engine 204 Cobble Hill; Engine 209 Bed-Stuy; Engine 212 Greenpoint; Squad 252 Bushwick; Engine 36 East Harlem; Engine 261 L.I.C; Engine 293 Woodhaven. They also plan to reduce (49) 5-man engines down to 4-man engines. This means it will take us longer to get the hose to your apartment or home. We will be staging rallies and commmunity meetings for the respective communities. Notices will be posted on www.bayridge.com Thanks for your continued support.
