Milam Elementary School has become increasingly dangerous for pedestrians and bike riders due to drivers ignoring traffic and parking laws. As the parking lot in front of Milam Elementary is for faculty and staff only, parents are forced to park across the street in a dirt lot or across the street at the Milam Youth Center. Other children walk and ride their bikes to school. We want our community on Fort Bliss to be safe for children and parents to walk and ride their bikes to school without being injured by dangerous drivers. We have asked for increased military police presence during morning and afternoon times, and have not seen significant changes.

We want the local law enforcement agency to:

1) Aggressively enforce traffic laws with TICKETS. Specifically, for offenses such as speeding in a school zone, not yielding to pedestrians, parking on red curbs, driving over sidewalks onto the street, and texting/talking while driving through a school zone.

2) Assist in being the crossing guards, or assisting volunteer crossing guards with aggressive pursuit and ticketing of drivers who fail to yield to the guards.

3) Pave the dirt lot that is designated as parent/additional parking for Milam Elementary.
