It was signed by Governor Jerry Brown in August 2018 and will become effective in October 2019. In basic terms, bail is a type of punishment against a defendant before they have ever been convicted of a crime. Under California’s currently used bail system, a court will determine whether or not bail is appropriate and the specific amount. Even though this Senate Bill was signed, many people still don't know about the Bill and what it does. This Senate Bill will eliminate the Cash Bail Bond and will have the risk assesment test. This test will have the defendants be able to be released from jail and not have to pay the bail bonds.

CASH BAIL IS A SCAM. RICH PEOPLE GET OUT WHILE THE REST ROT IN JAIL REGARDLESS OF THE CRIME. END IT NOW.
Finally. Its about time we stopped punishing people just for being poor. Innocent until proven guilty used to mean something.

Risk assessment is way fairer than just checking a bank account. Hope this actually goes through without more delays.
