Internet sweepstakes cafes are sprouting everywhere in our local towns. They are preying on the poors hopes of relief through a suposed "winfall" through gaming machines and devices that are the equivalent of gambling. Operating barely within the parameters of the law, these businesses threaten our communities just as bad if not worse than drugs that the average street pusher sells. These games feed peoples "need to win" compulsion at their own expense. Most often with negative results. These games are highly addictive, and are not guaranteed "fair" in any way. Through the rouse of "entertainment" they wipe out paychecks, bill money, and even Christmas for some children. Some thought must be given to the emotional state these people who lose have and what dangerous potential they could posess with things not going their way. Allowing these games to coexist in our communities is dangerous! Please uphold the higher courts decision and enforce their ban of internet sweepstakes in North Carolina. It is illegal and should not be allowed anymore than a drug dealer on the corner.
