No More Sports Welfare in Minnesota
As citizens of the state of Minnesota we have had to endure the threat of politicians borrowing money on our line of credit in order to build palaces for sports entertainment that directly lead to enhanced profits for wealthy team owners. Despite the myriad of economic research that has debunked any positive economic gains from such boondoggles, it seems that every year we are subjected to another proposal requesting the use of public funds to make private entertainment businesses more profitable. We say now that enough is enough! Clearly requiring a referendum is no longer a viable option because politicians simply find a way around it. The ability to impose taxation on the citizens is a powerful action of government and it should never be used to enhance the wealth of private businesses, sports entertainment is most certainly a private business. We the undersigned want to make it permanent law in Minnesota that NO public money should be used for any direct construction efforts of sports stadiums so that the cycle of corporate welfare lining the pockets of sports team owners in Minnesota ends. The petition is very simple; if you are tired of seeing wealthy team owners get rich because of their special relationship with representatives of our state government then let your voice be heard!
