End the Bells
Background: Lexington High School has used the bell system to indicate the beginning of passing time and class time in the past. It was a way to tell if one was late to class or when class ended. Between the period of March 12th, 2012 and March 13th, 2012, the bell system was faulty and was not used. Meanwhile, students honored the start times to classes. On March 14th, 2012, the bell system was replaced along with a different tone as a bell. The new sound has been described by some as "piercing", "alarm-like", "stressful" and "the worst way to signify the start of a class". Many, including a vast majority of faculty members, believe that the school fared much better without the bells completely. The bell-less system used on March 12th and 13th is favored by almost the entire student body. Petition: I believe that Lexington High School should continue the rest of the 2012 academic year without a bell system to indicate the beginning of passing time and class time as an experiment.
