Hello my name is Brian Federico, im currently attending highschool and like all other teenagers in highschool, i have to deal with excessive amounts of homework every night. now before i go let me ask a question. have you ever woke up at 6 in the morning. got to school at 8. stayed at school until 3PM.. got home at 4PM and did homework for 3 hours. now granted its only 7pm. by the time were done with all that but then we have to go and get everything ready for the next day shower and normally were asleep by then. now the reason homework is so important is so the teachers can have something else to grade us on. to make sure were understanding what were doing, incase they dont have time to check and see during class. however, the extreme amounts of homework have gotten crazy. homework was not made to grade but to keep peoples minds going after they leave the classroom. In Reality however, all the heeps of homework are doing is making kids less motivated. in other words we spend about 10 minutes everyday in the beggining og every class going over last nights homework and turning it in. then the last ten minutes are used for getting a head start on tonights homework. that right there is 20 minutes a class that you didnt get to use learning. in a week thats almost two hours. so you would get an extra 2 classes a week to teach us. And if there was no homework there isnt a student around who wouldnt mind an extra ten minutes of class with no homework. because then they would be able to get all there work done in class and not have to worry about it when they get home. thats the main reason that students drop out and fail.becayse throughout my expierience of school the majority of failing students that ive spoken with understand the material they just loose interest do to too much homework. because they feel like they have no time for you have a life so instead of sitting inside all night they say to hell with homework and go hang out with friends.( who also are ditching there homework.
