End Violent Repression in Turkey. The New School for the right of protest
We condemn the recent assault of the Turkish government on its own citizens and its unjustified use of violence, incarceration, and intimidation against protesters. The Turkish government is attacking not only basic rights of free speech and assembly, but also the freedom of the press and free access to information. We call upon the Turkish government to immediately cease its violent actions, its intimidation and censorship of the press, and its obstruction of medical care for those injured by its unilateral violence. We also call for the immediate release of the hundreds of protesters unlawfully detained or sequestered. We stand on the side of all those who are peacefully protesting in Turkey in order to defend public spaces against privatization and we reaffirm the people’s fundamental right of dissent.
