Doctor Adela Halo has been a very responsible years abroad tutor and I will not be comfortable with going abroad next year if she is forced to resign. Our lecturers have families to feed and they have all be fantastic in supporting us throughout our academic life.

Alessandro’s getting made redundant. But why? Because he is too dedicated to his job? Because he works 60 hours per week during the Covid times? Because he is one of the main intellectual historians in the department? Because he complains about getting unfair treatment? Because he is such a good teacher and loveable character? We need an answer

I've never had the opportunity to attend one of Jack Saunders' seminars, but I've been to his lectures, in which he manages to be exhaustive but also very engaging while always finishing on time; he's probably among the best lecturers I've had at UCL. I also know people who have had the pleasure of having him as a seminar tutor and they only have nice things to say about him. His departure would be a huge loss for UCL and its students, and I can't help but wonder if his prominent involvement in the University and College Union had to do with the decision to lay him off.

Our teaching staff are what makes this department so engaging, supportive and successful. We value them greatly as a student community, and it is disappointing to hear that UCL does not. This move seems like it was made to cut corners economically rather than assure the best education for us students, since the quality of teaching is impacted when our staff are in precarious contracts such as these and made redundant. We urge UCL to reconsider, and to put the quality of teaching and the wellbeing of students and staff over economic benefit.
