Charter schools are one of a number of efforts to destroy equitable schooling for ALL children, privatize our public schools, and destroy teachers' unions. With No Child Left Behind, Race to the Top, and a greater push for more standardized tests, supporting the charter school movement amounts to nothing more than an endorsement of the so-called "educational reform" efforts of the corporate and bank CEOs, hedge-fund managers, and the Teach For America crowd.  Diane Ravitch notes that even Al Shanker, "withdrew his endorsement of charter schools in 1993 and became a vociferous critic."   Therefore, we as public school educators, workers, and union members call on our local, the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, Local 59, to end all ties and financial support to "The Guild" and other charter school sponsors.
