This is an important step toward reducing shame and misperception and helping those , like myself, who suffer from this—be better able to accept and embrace the truth of how my brain has been injured due to severe childhood trauma .

Send this petition to the incredible attorneys going after the Boy Scouts of America for their century long history of abusing boys and hiding pedophiles. Those abused are definitely suffering from PTSI.

It's not a disorder for the brain to act how it was designed in order to protect us in times of trauma. To suggest it is is to pathologize the people who experience trauma, reducing them to a part of them that people can then shun more easily. Please change this language so that they can be viewed as whole humans, given the chance to heal.

It is a matter of course for me to actively support this petition submitted by Dr Eugine Lipov with my name and signature.
From the term 'disorder' in post-traumatic stress disorder, science has so far deduced that this clinical picture is only temporary. Consequently, those affected who are and have been given this diagnosis are not offered appropriate therapies. Many of those affected feel stigmatised and ashamed and choose suicide instead of seeking treatment as long as this diagnosis rules out such treatment.
If, on the other hand, PTBD were diagnosed and recognised as an 'injury', which is long overdue, sufferers would have a range of therapies available to them through their doctors.
Changing this term to 'disease', which Dr Lipov advocates in this petition, would therefore be an important step towards saving countless lives with the right therapies.
I hope that my support for his petition will help to ensure that Dr Lipov's proposed amendment is already taken into account in the next online update of the DSM, so that the complex clinical picture can finally be diagnosed in clinical psychology and medicine as PTSD, and thus as an 'injury'.

I wholeheartedly agree that TRAUMA causes an injury stored in the body, a wound. And wounds can heal. The name should be changed to Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI).

I fully agree it's an injury not a disorder. Changing the label will make for lots of discussion and needed shift of mindset.

PTSD sounds final/complete. Where as PTSI gives one hope. That as an illness it is treatable, maybe curable, but definitely manageable enough for a positive quality of life.
