End the postcode lottery for Fracture Liaison Services (FLS)

We need better osteoporosis and fracture prevention services. Prevention is cheaper than cure.

This would make a huge difference to people with osteoporosis.

FLS plays a huge part in securing healthy & pain free futures for people. I really hope these services can be made available to all regardless of their location.

Please fund a national fracture liaison service to help us reduce the number of potential spinal and hip fractures in the near future.

By determining those at high risk of or who have osteoporotic fractures in a timely manner, further costly fractures can be prevented. Costly in pain as well as finance.

It is essential to secure appropriate resource for healthcare professionals working in bone health to care for the people who need them.  Unfortunately there is a significant gap in the need and resources for this service; this seems very much the case across NHS. As a result we are able to provide limited service only due to lack of resources, which needs addressing as soon as possible.

Bone health is an imperative for healthy ageing and fracture prevention. We have long way to go to reach the average care in such field.

This can make a huge difference to people's lives and well being.

We don't have a local FLS; this is unacceptable. The health economic arguments for FLS are compelling; it should be mandated that all NHS secondary care providers offer FLS to all patients.

We are very lucky to have a FLS in West Yorkshire, no such luck for all of those people in North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and South Yorkshire (apart from Rotherham). It is time that having a FLS is mandatory around the country.

Why has it taken so long?

I have been fighting for a FLS in Cornwall since 2014

Bone health is imperative for healthy living in older years, the impact for those not receiving appropriate screening and treatment to prevent fractures and disability is bigger than words can convey.

Treatment can significantly reduce the risk of future fracture (but not prevent fractures completely). Calculations suggest it would save money for the NHS (and social care).
