"Automated license plate reader" is actually incorrect. These systems currently use much more advanced surveillance technologies. Many units have active microphones that are also monitoring audio and the camera AI can recognize patterns to more accurately track vehicles even if there is no license plate (this is stated as a feature of the system on their website). If these systems are not currently running facial-recognition on that same AI platform (which is unclear) the switch to do so would be just one update away and the company may not notify the clients and/or public of this capability and how many other systems that collected data is integrated with. They may be actively collecting facial-recognition data on some or all units currently. We don't know. There is no public 3rd-party auditing in place for these systems and that is a big part of the problem with this kind of surveillance.

Auburn citizens do not feel comfortable with APDs deal with Flock safety cameras, they have little security oversight and are a public safety risk for every one of out citizens. We should be allowed to have a say in out public privacy.

The only people against this either don't understand what Flock is or what it is capable of becoming, or directly benefit from using Flock as a direct violation of our constitution. Take this out of our city. This is only the beginning, if we stop this now we can get ahead of the curve. The survillance state is coming.

This is deemed unconstitutional. If we need to file a lawsuit to have these removed we can do this. Court cases all around the country have ruled this illegal surveillance of citizens.

AI should not be doing police work. All ALPR is a violation of the 4th ammendment.

These cameras and their data have and will continue to be abused. At some point we must draw the line between reasonable security and liberty, and I for one say it's here.

Replacing hard working citizens with cameras feels very British/UK. We separated from them over 300 years ago but in our lords year 2026 it seems that auburn city council wants to bring tyranny and surveillance that do not belong in a democracy of free individuals. Very unamerican and sneaky nonetheless. Be grownups and put this to a vote so the people this legitimately effects can find out if they want to have this done to them or not. Doesn’t that sound fair?

Flock is a data brokerage masquerading as a public safety company. There is a great piece of journalism on 404Media titled "Flock exposed it's AI-poweres cameras to the internet," which fully captures the absurdity of Flock being in the business of providing "public safety."

Unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars. Dystopian and scary offering virtually no benefit in exchange for false sense of security.
