Expand the mission but decrease the fighting force! Only Washington and the politicians could possibly see the merits in this mission. Grow our fighting forces to keep us safe from our enemies...

Ft. Benning, GA is the backbone of our defense as a nation. With the current world treats, we do not need to cut our troops.

Keep benning alive. Many veterans retired in the tr=icity area and rely on the services afford by Ft. Benning. National security will also be in danger by decreasing military power. I shudder to think what type of protection our country will have with all the implementations the smart folks at the capital is making. Fort Benning once was known as follow me, in the future it will be known as forgotten me.

I am all for keeping FT. Benning here. It means a lot to our community and to have a military base as nice as Benning deserves to stay here. This base has been here so long and has been ranked the number 1 base in the Army for several years. It would be so sad to see Ft Benning leave the Columbus area!!

In times of crisis the United States military always stands ready to serve and protect. Terrorism is crisis! How can the government justify reducing our military?

I am well aware of the need for cut backs and drawdowns, but it should not come at the expense of bankrupting the economy of our own homeland.
The enemy is closer now than they ever been. We must remain strong as one united body and the only way to do this is with numbers. Let us not forget that "There is power in numbers."

Please keep both Fort Benning and our nation strong. We, as a whole cannot afford to cut our forces to the point of our nation being without protection when the "wolf prowls at the door" seeking to destroy us.

I urge you to fully consider the ramifications of reducing Ft. Benning's active personnel in excess of the 3400 already announced. Not only is it important to the tax base of Columbus GA but further reductions will affect the soldiers remaining on active status as well as the retirees who have made Columbus their home. Columbus GA has a large number of retirees some of whom are disabled who are already having a difficult time getting (medical) benefits and I suspect that as the number of active personnel is decreased, the Government will follow the same pattern of making ALL benefits difficult to receive just as it has in the Ft. McPherson area.
