Over the last two semesters, we the undersigned have internally voiced and discussed a mutual concern with the program curriculum with regards to mandatory core requirements and their limited availability.  While attending this program is acknowledged as a privilege, it is also a substantial commitment of time and financial resources, invested in a future promised by equity and prestige in a culminating degree.  Each student, with our own unique situations and history, all aspire towards this common goal.

Inarguably, there is a population who find weekend classes desirable, and we do not dispute that they are a valuable option as elective offerings.  Though recognizing this importance, weekends are considered beyond the level of sacrifice each student must make in order for success in this program.  For many, Saturdays and Sundays represent an important element to our personal lives, be it health, wellness, or family.  Some may have child care concerns, others may have religious responsibilities.  Such offerings also pose difficulties for those not in proximity to mass transit, consequently requiring financial and/or logistical burdens to those who are not in range of the classroom.

Prior student discussions on this matter have yielded a common concern for a review to non-weekday core requirements.  We the undersigned believe it is appropriate to have faculty available to provide for a weekday schedule of core requirements.  With regard to all classes in the program, we expect it to be the responsibility of the administration to display attention to students needs.

We the undersigned respectfully request the administration to review this matter and provide alternative solutions outside of weekend core availability.  Such remedies would improve upon the morale of students, and demonstrate a responsiveness to our collective voice.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
