This is great news, I've been closely following the transition away from plastic film bags at business establishment checkouts in Newfoundland. Yukons jurisidiction did a really great job in directing the subarctic and arctic communities into a more plastic free environment, I am glad y'all are looking to enact a similar ordinance. My only hope is that those so called, "reusable," plastic film and the paper alternatives as well will be banned, too, with the changing consumer perspective. I want the whole of Canada to switch to plastic free plant-based commercially biodegradable tote bags, no cotton junk, I want hemp, sugarcane or other PLA based resins instead. Cotton uses too much water and looking at the crisis in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and California over the reservoir supply shortage, I believe a sustainable future is one without cotton

I am a former resident of Corner Brook, now living in Ontario. Recently it has bee reported that there is plastic pollution in the Great Lakes comparable to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch!

They should be banned everywhere in my opinion! So much harm has already been done the world is littered with one use plastic items and it's killing marine life, wildlife and our planet.

If you don't think recycling is important for yourself, think of the later generation. I'm a new/first time aunt to a little boy and I want him to be able to enjoy nature the same way I can now when he turns 18.
