As a licensed health care provider in the Great State of Florida with 30+ years of mask wearing as a requirement of my job, I am in favor of ENDING the mask mandate in Hillsborough County. No federal, state, or local government in recent times has mandated mask usage during previous contagious respiratory viral diseases, including those with a higher transmission rate (albeit lower fatality instance), such as South Asian respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle Eastern Respiratory syndrome (MERS), the highly contagious H1N1, and the annual flu syndrome. There is no proof that other than a properly fitted N95 mask that any facial covering is protective against respiratory viral disease and ALL coverings result in the constant touching of the face near the eyes, nose, and mouth, which breaks the cardinal rule of keeping one's hands away from the face and keeping one's hands clean and sanitary. Once a person touches their face they place themselves and others at risk of spreading illness. END the unproven benefits of mask wearing in Hillsborough County.
