The local fishing council finally agreed to start the new sustainability program to stop those nets from drifting. Seeing the ocean get a little safer brings me so much joy. We have to keep an eye on them to make sure they actually follow through.

Our ocean is dying because of ghost nets. Ghost nets are lost or abandoned fishing nets that entangle marine life.

I spend my afternoons looking at the ocean and thinking about the turtles trapped in these nets. It makes me sad but I am working on a letter to send to the local fishing commission about better ways to track their gear.
