English IS included as a "language class." Weekend homework will also be allowed, so long as it is a reasonable assignment (no three page essays). The reason for this petition: Many students do not have the same home situation as others, creating distractions and an inability to focus. Certain studies have also shown that students who have lots of homework have much higher levels of stress than those who can get it done in class or at school. It has also been shown that students have healthier social lives if they have more free time. A final reason that homework should be banned is that many students have extra-curricular activities outside of school. Homework interferes with these activities. If you have concerns that your child isn't getting enough education without homework, you should sign them up for a educational club or class after school.
