PETITION AGAINST UNLAWFUL ARREST, NIGHT RAIDS, AND SEIZURE OF PROPERTY OF YOUTHS BY EFCC IN CALABAR We write on behalf of concerned youths resident in Calabar, Cross River State, to formally petition the National Human Rights Commission over repeated acts of unlawful arrest, illegal night raids, and seizure of properties by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Calabar On or about 9/12/2025 at various times in the middle of the night, EFCC officers forcefully broke into the houses of several youths without presenting arrest or search warrants. The officers unlawfully arrested these youths, seized their personal properties, and indiscriminately alleged that they were “Yahoo boys” without any investigation, evidence, or formal charges. In many cases, properties seized do not belong to the officers and are not proceeds of any crime. Some of the affected youths were detained without being promptly charged to court, while others were released after intimidation, harassment and Extortion These actions constitute gross violations of the fundamental rights of the affected youths, including the right to dignity of human person, personal liberty, privacy, and fair hearing as guaranteed under Sections 34, 35, 36, and 37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), as well as the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The continued targeting and profiling of youths in their homes at night has created fear, trauma, and insecurity within the community. We respectfully request the Commission to: 1. Investigate the unlawful actions of the EFCC 2. Order the immediate return of all seized properties belonging to the affected youths. 3. Recommend disciplinary measures against officers found culpable. 4. Direct the EFCC to desist from unlawful night raids and profiling of youths. 5. Ensure protection of the affected youths from further harassment. 6. Grant any other relief the Commission deems just an

PETITION AGAINST THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION (EFCC) OVER ALLEGED BRUTALITY AND DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY To: The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Through: Relevant Oversight Authorities / Human Rights Bodies Subject: Petition Against Alleged Brutality, Harassment, and Destruction of Homes and Property by EFCC Operatives We, the undersigned concerned citizens of Nigeria, hereby write to formally petition against the repeated and troubling actions of some EFCC operatives who allegedly engage in acts of brutality, intimidation, and unlawful destruction of citizens’ homes and personal property during their operations. It has been observed and widely reported that in the course of arrests and investigations, EFCC operatives sometimes use excessive force, break into homes without proper warrants, destroy valuable property, and subject innocent family members— including women and children— to trauma and fear. These actions go against the principles of the rule of law, human rights, and due process as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. While we fully support the fight against corruption and financial crimes, we strongly believe that law enforcement must operate within the boundaries of the law and respect the dignity and rights of all citizens. The destruction of homes, vehicles, electronics, and other personal belongings without lawful justification or compensation is unacceptable and unjust. We therefore humbly request the following: 1. An immediate investigation into allegations of brutality and destruction of property by EFCC operatives. 2. Accountability and disciplinary action against any officers found guilty of misconduct. 3. Compensation for victims whose homes and property were unlawfully damaged or destroyed. 4. Clear operational guidelines to prevent excessive force and abuse of power during EFCC operations. 5. Increased oversight and human-rights

EFCC as the body of government has neglected the law and no longer abides to the constitution of Nigeria in this case they’ve done to Nigerians youths and society more harms than Good, the level of property vandalism in Nigeria is high. The breaking of one’s doors and windows at night without a warrant Is more like being drunk by power and oppressing people negotiating bills in dollars and stealing of one’s property rendering Nigerian youths useless. My question now is EFCC is it crime to be successful at a younger age? Why Is EFCC extorting from the youths. Pls this has to end because we’re the future of this great nation
