A lot of inmates on most of these centres have gone insane because of the structured conditions that is against humanity. Cultures and denominations are affected as well as kids get to be institunalised as kids of a parent serving jail in another country. We appreciate the support but humanity is degraded to handout level and life of failing to provide independently in an open society

There has to be a better way to deal with people/families seeking asylum. Thousands of people and families will be spending their christmas in Ireland, far from loved ones, squashed in old damp overcrowded hotel rooms, eating canteen food and facing into yet another year of no home, work or semblance of a normal life. It is a soul destroying, money making, cruel solution to the question of immigration and it needs to change.

Direct Provision is the worst ongoing, systematic human rights violation occurring in Ireland today. I believe it will be looked back on in the future in the same vein that we currently reflect on the institutional abuse documented by the Ryan Report.

The real tragedy of modern life is that we can so easily convince ourselves that all is being taken care of by the 'authorities'. If it wasn't for the decision of one single Dunnes Stores staff in the 1980s to refuse to handle South African goods in a store in Dublin, perhaps I wouldnt be here signing this petition today. I'm always hopeful that it only takes one decision, one vote, one person to change eventually waht isn't acceptable. As an Irish born citizen I abhorr the 'direct provision' system in ireland which goes against the very core of my culture which is in my book to respect everyone & all of life.
