I have gone to the Thompson for 15 of 20 years. Through thick and thin years, what is being allowed to happened to these unique steelhead is boardering on criminal.

Non-selective methods of harvesting salmon, such as gill nets, during the migration of interior steelhead need to stop. The Thompson and Chilcoltin river steelhead runs are of serious conservation concern.

Years and years of old , out dated policies , have led us here ,not only for steelhead but all salmonoid species it's like a plague working its way through all salmonoid rivers and streams BC wide. It's time for action.

The same action that was used to save the silver salmon population in 1998 must be used to save the steelhead in 2018. There is no other effective alternative.

As Director for Area I for the last five years I have had meetings with our Minister of Natural Resources for BC. (Minister Steve Thomson) and this year with Minister Doug Donaldson assistant, Gerry MacDougall. There still seems to be a disconnect between the Province and DFO. Our Province has a "BEST of CLASS" Steelhead...Best of Class in the WORLD! The Province and DFO need to talk and take action...ASAP! If not, we lose this "world class resource" and the town of Spences Bridge.
This fishery is on "Life Support"...please don't pull the plug.

I am not a steelhead fisherman, there are not enough left in many river to practice catch and release. There are many other runs of salmon on the verge of extirpation. To lose these runs to neglect is a crime against humanity . Please stop the gill net fishery in the Fraser, at the time of steelhead entry. Thank you

Having chum fisheries open to the commercial sector durring Thompson River steelhead run in this day and age is crazy. This particular run has been depressed fir years right in frint of DFO and the provinces eyes yet nothing was done. The alarm bell were sounded years ago yet they still let the netting continue. Crazy.

The Thompson River steelhead are on the brink of extirpation mainly I believe the result of poor DFO management decisions. Chum roe has become a valuable commodity in the Japanese market hence the increased fishing for chum which runs at the same time as the Thompson steelhead. The fishery and the community of Spences Bridge is dying as a direct result.

Quit the netting. Are you kidding me
