As the world sets the next development agenda, African countries urgently need to articulate Africa’s future priorities.

The African Young Positives Network proposes and calls on all the Heads of State and the UN General Assembly to makeEND AIDS BY 2030 as goal number one inthe Post 2015 Development Agenda.

TheEnd AIDS by 2030is a monumental goal that will take an incredible amount of global effort, planning, coordination and commitment in leadership. You support by signing this petition is the first step in achieving a World without AIDS.


Why Make END AIDS BY 2030 Goal No. 1 in the Post 2015 Development Agenda

· The MDGs recognised reversing the AIDS epidemic as a key target for development progress. The results have been unprecedented. It put10 million people living with HIV on life-saving treatment compared to less than 50,000 in 2001. New HIV infections have declined by 33% over the past decade and the health, welfare and human dignity of millions of people have been restored.

· The UN Secretary General has called for a future free of AIDS, the AU has called for the eradication of AIDS, TB and Malaria by 2030 and the US Government has called for an AIDS free generation.

· Africa must follow through on this ambition and call for a standalone goal on ending the AIDS epidemic in the Post-2015 development framework. This goal needs to includes targets and indicators that go beyond health committing countries to action on ending stigma and discrimination and that addresses the social determinants of health.

· The call to end AIDS will ensure the international community does not turn its back on the millions of people affected by HIV. It will be crucial in championing the role of human rights, human dignity, equity, social justice and the distribution of opportunity, in delivering health and development outcomes
