Enact School Uniform Policy at St. John's Lutheran School
Results from scientific studies show that the implementation of school uniforms reduces incidents of disruptive behavior, negative influence by peers, violence among children, and instead allows students to be positive school citizens and concentrate more on studies. Here are some of the benefits:
Reduction of non-academic distractions including peer pressure & undue stress
As kids grow and begin to form self-identities, designer status symbols become more and more important as they try to fit in with their peers. By taking away a major point of competition, uniforms help students better identify with one another.
Teachers & administrators spend less time tending to dress code violations, as the rules are clear and concrete.
Uniforms can promote genuine creativity. By wearing a uniform, students can find other more substantial means to showcase their creativity.
Less Stress on Parents & Teachers
Uniforms reduce morning stress by making the process of getting dressed a no brainer. Students know exactly what they can and cannot wear - one less battle parents must fight. Teachers benefit too: no more staring at the closet wondering what to wear and if that shirt actually goes with those pants.
Less Stress on the Wallet
Besides having one less thing to fight about, parents also benefit from not having to buy their children expensive, designer clothes for school. Uniforms are cost-efficient, as parents do not have to spend on children’s clothes as frequently. Particularly for those expensive designer labels. Plus, students can wear their uniforms for more than one year without fear that they are out of style.
Improved relations between teachers and students
Research finds that teachers think their students are more respectful when they are wearing uniforms. Teachers also tend to have higher expectations of students that are dressed for success. As a result, students work harder to live up to these expectations.
