Dear parents,

As you may be aware, on October 22, 2009 the Supreme Court of Canada found Bill 104 to be unconstitutional.

The Quebec government was hence given a one year reprieve by the Supreme Court to review Bill 104, an amendment to Bill 101, the Charter of the French language.  The amendment states that students cannot use unsubsidized private schools in order to gain access to the English public system.

It is our fear that the Quebec government will draft a new legislation in the very near future that may very well mirror Bill 104, once again infringing upon our freedom of choice.

Enough is enough! The time has come to stand up for our rights: the right and freedom to choose.  Let us protect our freedom of choice and that of generations to come.

The Central Parents' Committee, which is composed of parent volunteers throughout our system, is appealing to not only parents and students in our system today, but to alumni and the community at large.  Please join forces with us so we can speak as one voice against this infringement of our freedom of choice.

We urge you to sign the petition which will serve to support the resolution that will be  sent to the Quebec government.

You are encouraged to help us succeed in making our voices heard by spreading the word to your family, friends, neighbors,  colleagues at work and any association or foundation you may belong to.  If someone does not have an email address, help them create one!!  And most importantly speak to your MNAs!!!  Please send this to anyone else who believes in the freedom of choice when it comes to education and the future of our children.

Sincerely,

The Central Parents' Committee of the English Montreal School Board.
