Dear Ms. Zikhali

REQUEST FOR FULL-TIME N4_T2 ENROLLEMENT

MOTIVATION FOR FULL-TIME ENROLMENT OF N4 ENGINEERING REPEATING STUDENTS (TRIMESTER 2)

We, the undersigned students enrolled in the N4 Engineering programme under the Report 191 curriculum, hereby submit this formal motivation regarding the enrolment status of students repeating subjects in Trimester 2 (T2) of the 2026 academic year.

In light of the ongoing phasing out of the Report 191 programme, it has come to our attention that students who are required to repeat subjects in T2 are being restricted to part-time enrolment. This situation places these students at a significant academic and structural disadvantage. At the same time, the institution will not be accepting new N4 intakes for the second block of the 2026 academic year, further limiting opportunities for progression and completion; but simultaneously relieving full-time lecturers due to there not being new intakes.

The current arrangement is unfavourable for the following reasons:

- Delayed Completion: Part-time enrolment extends the duration required for students to complete their qualifications, which is particularly critical given the programme is being phased out.

- Limited Academic Support: Full-time students benefit from structured timetables, consistent academic engagement, and better access to institutional resources.

- Inequality in Opportunity: Preventing repeating students from enrolling full-time creates an imbalance between them and those who had the opportunity to progress without interruption.

- Impact on Student Outcomes: Restricting enrolment status undermines student success rates and negatively affects morale, motivation, and future prospects.

Given these circumstances, we respectfully request that the institution make a provision allowing N4 Engineering students who are repeating subjects in Trimester 2 to enroll on a full-time basis. This intervention will provide a fair and practical pathway for students to complete their studies within the remaining lifespan of the programme.

This requisition is not only reasonable but necessary to ensure that students are not disadvantaged by systemic changes beyond their control. Allowing full-time enrolment will support academic success, improve throughput rates, and align with the institution’s broader commitment to student development.

As a collective of Report 191 students, we unanimously agree that implementing this request is imperative. Such an initiative will bear meaningful results by empowering students, strengthening teaching and learning, and ultimately contributing to the building of sustainable futures.

We trust that this matter will be given urgent and favourable consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Report 191 N4 Engineering Students
