This is very sad. Give the family time to heal. What a shame some people are so insensitive.

My son has lost 6 Valley friends, including Emma, to the perils of youth in the Santa Ynez Valley. Let this memorial stay as a reminder of Emma's life, and the love that is left behind when someone passes. The Valley cannot afford another loss. Please allow this memorial to stay until the family no longer wishes it to be present. Grief changes over time, and people find new expressions, new creations and projects that help them remember and create a legacy. To say that the memorial is a distraction is akin to outlawing holiday decorations or for sale signs along the road. Those practicalities have nowhere near the significance of this memorial, this family and community's remembrance of a previous life gone far too soon.

It may be distracting to some but it means so much to others.

RIP Emma and Koda.......you are loved by even those who never met you!!

The reason I'm proud to have grown up in the Santa Ynez valley is the supportive community. Now that I live in LA, I'm constantly asked what I/We as kids did to entertain ourselves growing up in a small town. I always proudly answer "Since we didn't have a lot of distractions or places to go, the friendships and bonds become incredibly close because all we had was each other." - While I didn't know Emma personally, or her sister or family - I've witnessed this tragedy from afar and been heartbroken that it happened, and even more heartbroken to see the desperate and love-filled pleas from all she affected be sub-sided when all they ask for is to have her memorial stay in tact. While I do not know who's making these powerful decisions, I do know it makes me unfortunately less-proud of my hometown for such an insensitive act. The community of Santa Ynez is about the community. I encourage those who have the power to have the memorial removed, reconsider their actions and ask yourself "What if it was my daughter?" Or "What if it was my sister?" - While I pray you never have to answer that question, it is one worth considering before making a decision that will affect the emotions of your community so strongly. I bring Emma flowers every month and my daughter loves to look at all of the lovely decorations. some day I will tell her of how Emma is her guardian angel (Emma passed the day she was born). This site brings me so much joy and losing it would break my heart!

The memorial is tastefully and lovingly decorated. It is tucked out of the way, and serves as a reminder for drivers to slow down. Taking it down would be an absolute shame.

Please let this memorial stay for Emma's family and friends. It isn't hurting anyone and is a reminder for everyone to drive safely.

Please don't destroy something so close to our hearts.
