2-1-1 Humboldt is an information and resource center, making information readily available to community members. 2-1-1 maintains a list of over 2000 community resources to provide a free lifeline to those who call, regardless of age, income, religion or household status.
During times of an emergency, such as the recent Oroville Dam evacuation, 2-1-1 Humboldt was one of six 2-1-1's in Northern California who assisted with the evacuation. Within the first 24 hours, there were nearly 600 emergency and non-emergency questions. In instances like this, 2-1-1's throughout California can switch their calls so any available 2-1-1 agent, anywhere, may receive calls from any location and receive access to the database of resources for that caller's location. This ensures that in the event of an emergency, or disaster, callers would be able to receive up to date information that is shared with 2-1-1 from OES (Office of Emergency Services), Red Cross, DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services), PG&E and other government and non-governmental agencies, most of which are part of VOAD (Volunteer Organization Active in Disaster) or first responders. These connections are important to make sure that 9-1-1 is not flooded with non-emergency calls and so that our community members can speak with an agent, 24/7 and receive vital information.

2-1-1 Humboldt is where local government representatives will be asking callers to contact for those non-emergency calls after a disaster. The work they do is vital in making sure that after a disaster, our community has the ability to seek out answers for their concerns and needs.

By signing this petition, I am showing support for 2-1-1 and am asking you to consider Measure Z funding for 2-1-1. It is a valuable service to Humboldt county that we need to strengthen and support so that it can grow and continue to meet the needs of all residents, now and after a disaster.
